Do you have another plan instead? Rent a camper and jet from Hamburg to the Baltic Sea! Then here are our tour tips for your Baltic Sea route: Lübeck-Timmendorfer Strand-Fehmarn.
1st stage: Hamburg–Lübeck
Follow the A1 motorway or the B432 and B75 federal roads from Hamburg to Lübeck. On site you will find various mobile home parking spaces that are right in the city - for example at the fishing port, at the shopping center or at the Marienbrücke. Park your camper and make your way to the historic city center.
Directly behind the famous landmark of the city, the Holstentor with the city history museum, you reach the old town, which was shaped by the Hanseatic League. The old town hall impresses with its magnificent façade in brick Gothic style. You should not miss that! Also worth seeing is the Gängeviertel with its cute little buildings - hidden behind the opulent patrician houses of the Middle Ages.
And what would a trip to Lübeck be without getting to know the world-famous marzipan and coffee house culture? In Café Niederegger you can eat the most delicious marzipan specialties in town and treat yourself to a top-quality coffee.
2nd stage: Lübeck-Timmendorfer Strand-Scharbeutz-Haffkrug
The second stage of your Baltic trip takes you to Timmendorfer Strand. With its white sand and clear water, it invites you to sunbathe and swim. The highlight for all sports enthusiasts: beach volleyball with a great view of the Baltic Sea. The German Beach Volleyball Championship has been held here every year since 1992 - always at the end of August or beginning of September.
Hobby ornithologists feel just as at home on Timmendorfer Strand and, with a bit of luck, will discover some of the almost 170 bird species along the coast. If you are very interested in the Baltic Sea and its inhabitants, a visit to SEA LIFE should not be missed.
If you want to go a little further north, the road to Scharbeutz and Haffkrug leads you directly along the beach. The small, cute coastal towns on the way are definitely worth a detour with the camper. Do you like something a little more exciting - or are you traveling as a family with a child? Then you will get your money's worth in the Hansapark Sierksdorf. More than 100 attractions and rides await your visit.
There are numerous campsites along the Baltic Sea coast. One of the most popular is the Südstrand campsite at the upper tip of Lübeck Bay. Equipped with a soccer field and adjoining high ropes course, you can also get moving there yourself on your camping tour.
3rd stage: Bay of Lübeck - Fehmarn
From the Bay of Lübeck it goes up to Fehmarn. Set up your base camp in the village of Burg - close to the beach and the island's marine centre. Be sure to visit the Grüner Brink nature reserve there. The small lagoon west of the Puttgarden ferry port offers a magnificent view over the brackish water and salt lakes. The ferry from Kiel to Lithuania also passes here regularly. The highlight: In the east of the island you will find a paradise for kiters and surfers.
