1. With the motorhome to the Netherlands from Dortmund
You can reach it with your motorhome Dutch coast in about three hours from Menden. Our suggested route takes you directly Amsterdam, about The Hague continue to Rotterdam.
A unique canal metropolis with art and culture awaits you in Amsterdam. If Anne Frank House, Van Gogh Museum, Munttoren or Royal Palace – there is a lot of history to discover here. The beautiful Vondelpark invites you to have a relaxed picnic, while you can treat yourself to a top-class brewery experience at the Heineken Experience.
2. Journey of discovery in Belgium
This route offers a mix of historical city exploration and nature experiences and makes your motorhome tour through Belgium an unforgettable adventure. We recommend that you plan around two weeks for this trip.
STAGE 1: DORTMUND TO BRUSSELS
Start in Dortmund: Pack your motorhome and hit the road. The journey from Dortmund to Brussels takes approximately 3 hours (approx. 280 km via the A2 and E314).
Arrival in Brussels: Explore the capital of Belgium. Visit the Atomium, stroll through the historic center and enjoy Belgian specialties such as French fries and chocolate. Overnight stay at one of the many campsites near Brussels.
STAGE 2: BRUSSELS TO GHENT
Trip to Ghent: In the morning we continue to Ghent, a drive of around 1 hour (approx. 60 km via the E40). Ghent is known for its well-preserved medieval architecture and vibrant cultural scene.
Exploring Ghent: Visit Gravensteen Castle, walk along the canals and admire St. Bavo's Cathedral. Overnight stay at one of the many campsites near Ghent.
STAGE 3: GHENT TO BRUGES
Off to Bruges: Drive to Bruges (approx. 50 km via the E40), one of the best-preserved medieval cities in Europe.
Discover Bruges: Take a boat trip on the canals, visit the historic old town and try Belgian beer in one of the local breweries. Overnight stay at one of the many campsites near Bruges.
STAGE 4: BRUGES TO ANTWERP
Trip to Antwerp: The next destination is Antwerp, about 1,5 hours drive away (about 100 km via the E34).
Exploring Antwerp: Visit the Rubens House, check out the Diamond District and discover the view from the MAS Museum. Overnight stay at one of the many campsites near Antwerp.
STAGE 5: ANTWERP NACH ARDENNES
Ardennes: We continue to the Ardennes, an area with dense forests, hilly landscapes and picturesque villages (around 2 hours drive, around 150 km via the E313 and E25).
Nature experience: Take the opportunity to go hiking, cycling or canoeing in this natural beauty. Overnight stay at a campsite in the Ardennes.
STAGE 6: ARDENNES BACK TO DORTMUND
Return: Take your time for some final explorations in the Ardennes before you start your journey home to Dortmund (approx. 3,5 hours, approx. 280 km via the E42 and A2).
Tips for the trip:
- Campsites: Reserve campsites in advance, especially in the summer months.
- Traffic rules: Familiarize yourself with the traffic rules in Belgium.
- plots: Uses specially designated parking spaces for RVs.
- Local specialities: Try local specialties and get to know Belgian hospitality.
3. With the camper to the North Sea from Dortmund
Our Menden station is located in the north of the Sauerland, from here you can reach the German one with your motorhome North Sea coast in just under three and a half hours.
The easiest route is via the A1 towards Bremen, via Bremenhaven and directly to the North Sea. As little detour Both cities have a lot to offer. The Zoo by the sea, the climate house or the universe await you here.
Our tip for motorhome fans is this popular coastal town Norddeich with its well-equipped campsite. Only separated from the water by the dike, you can enjoy a fantastic view of the sea here. Explore the city center on foot or hop on the bikes you brought with you to explore the region with the Eider barrage, Büsum harbor and seal station. Important questions about renting a camper in Dortmund
Which camper is right for us?

Can our dog come with us in the motorhome?
We have ours especially for traveling with dogs Dogs Hannes and the Big dogs Hannes. At the end of these two pages you will find important information about camper holidays with your favorite four-legged friend.
Which driving license do we need for the camper?
The normal class B car driving license is sufficient, as a Hannes camper only has a total weight of 3,5 tonnes. You don't need anything else to drive our van. The low weight also gives you further advantages when it comes to tolls and ferries.
Is the camper fully fueled when picked up?
Yes, down to the last drop! And you have to give it back as well. Otherwise the camper will be refueled by us and the sum plus an administration fee of €30,00 will be charged.
How many kilometers are included in our trip?
250 km per day are included. Each kilometer that goes beyond these inclusive kilometers will be charged at €0,20 and will be billed to you after your trip. We can of course discuss fixed prices for a very long tour (over 3 months travel time) together and individually.
Of course you can also book our worry-free package and then all kilometers are always included!
Is it advisable to use campsites?
The feeling of freedom is what makes traveling with a camper van so special. Some of our guests therefore feel somewhat restricted on campsites. Other guests love the comfort of campsites - especially when children are on board.
Since the shower facility in the Hannes Camper is available, but is more of an emergency solution, many of our guests combine their accommodation options and make a stop at a campsite every second or third day and use the infrastructure.
Which campsites near Dortmund are popular?
The campsite at Lake Möhne, pitches in the Sauerland region, and camping in the Ruhr Valley are very popular – ideal for nature lovers.
Is Dortmund a suitable starting point for tours abroad?
Yes, the central location is perfect for weekend trips to Holland or Belgium. Amsterdam or Brussels can be reached in just a few hours.
Where can I buy provisions for the trip around Dortmund?
Supermarkets and outdoor retailers are located in the immediate vicinity of the station in Menden.
