The best time of the year - VACATION - we dog owners don't want to do without our dog. To ensure that we all have a relaxed and great time, there are a few things to consider. So that dog and master have a good time.
Your vacation with your dog in a camper not only means independence for you, but also offers the most privacy. This gives your dogs security and familiarity on holiday. What is nicer for us dog people than to spend the entire holiday with our beloved four-legged friends.
#Holidays with dogs must be well prepared - we have #tips for you and your four-legged friend

Before starting the trip
Before the start of the trip, the question of your holiday destination is certainly very important and needs to be well thought out. Excessive heat can cause problems for older dogs and dogs with long or dark fur. With a dog Hannes you can easily adapt your travel destination to the needs of your dog even during your vacation. The time of recovery should not become a strain for any of you.
Not only your vaccination card is important, don't forget your pet ID for your dog. If you are planning your holiday with your dog outside of Germany, your dog must have a microchip identification. In this case, please inform yourself in advance about the travel regulations of the respective country. You should also have taken out private liability insurance for your dog and a first-aid kit should not be missing either. From my own experience, I can recommend packing the tick remover and claw clippers. If your dog regularly takes medication, please make sure that there is enough of it for the duration of the trip.
Important contents of a first-aid kit for your dog:
If your dog loves toys, then definitely pack his favorite toy with him, food and treats are also very important. However, you should reduce or even do without the food for your dog immediately before you travel. Please don't forget to pack dog waste bags.
We always have a slightly longer towing line with us, a rope is of course also possible, so that our dog can move freely in a larger radius on the pitch. Even if your dog always runs free, pack a leash with you. There are always places or places, possibly on sections of the beach, where your dog is only allowed to be on a leash.
Please also make sure that muzzles are compulsory at your travel destination. Wearing a muzzle requires getting used to beforehand and doesn't just work like that.
While driving
Blankets from home help your dog relax while driving. If your dog is used to a transport box, you can also place it in the dog Hannes. You can unhook the table in the dining area completely and place it in the storage space in the rear of the camper. Then there is enough space for a box or for your dog blanket. It is important that you have ensured that your dog cannot get into the driver's footwell or onto the driver's lap, which could result in impaired visibility. Our dog is much more relaxed when we are in his immediate vicinity and the space directly behind the cockpit is great for that.
You secure your dog with a belt extension, which you anchor in the camper with the bench's three-point belt system. If you don't yet have a dog seat belt for your car, you can get one in stores for little money. Please always use a harness to secure your dog and never the collar, otherwise your dog may strangle itself.
It is also important during the journey that you provide sufficient drinking water. Sufficient fresh air is also part of this, but please do not let your dog stick its head out of the open window. Dogs like sun shields on the windows just as much as children do, because they help protect against direct sunlight. If you don't have a sunshade at hand, you can use a towel or something similar.
Regular breaks are essential. Use this to go for a short walk or to play. Your dog also likes to stretch its paws. Everyone, not just us dog owners, knows how quickly a vehicle heats up in summer. It only takes a few minutes and unfortunately it happens again and again that dogs are found in overheated vehicles. If you spend your rest periods outside together, this cannot happen.
Arrived at the pitch or campsite
Once you have arrived at a campsite or pitch, first familiarize yourself with the rules there. In the places that you have already booked or planned in advance, it is definitely ensured that dogs are allowed. You may be required to present your pet ID card with a valid rabies vaccination upon check-in.
Before you occupy your spot, just ask the neighbors if they like dogs. Possibly you can save yourself later trouble by just asking this one question.
With your packed towline or rope, the dog can move freely on your pitch. If your dog is big and strong, you can attach the leash directly to the dog Hannes or, if available, to a nearby tree. You can also use a dog peg for smaller dogs. It looks like a twisted peg that you can screw into the ground. It has an eyelet at the top, to which you attach the leash carabiner.
In case you want to read a good book in peace, you have your favorite toy or a chewing bone with you. So you and your dog can enjoy these times individually.
Please ensure that other campers are not disturbed by your dog and if your dog does its business on your pitch, please dispose of it immediately. Better yet, walk away from the campsite if possible.
The awning on Hunde-Hannes protects you and your dog from the direct sun, but it can also rain on holiday. Also take towels or a dog bathrobe with you for your dog. Our dog likes to lie outside under the awning even in the rain, when the temperatures are right, there is no wind, you are at the camper and you make sure that the rainwater does not collect on the awning, you can also extend it. My tip is that if you adjust the awning supports a little shorter on one side than on the other, it will become crooked and no water can collect on it.
If the ground is still wet later, we often place a blue IKEA bag directly under the dog blanket on the floor, so our dog and his blanket stay dry from below.
Quick note: If the awning is still damp when you return the camper, please let us know. We then extend them to completely dry and thus avoid mold stains.
You and your dog are certainly already in the mood for the next holiday. What are you waiting for! Choose your travel destination directly and book your dog Hannes today. You can expect a trip with lots of fun and real relaxation for all of you.
